Understanding
So you see beyond the deeds of man
And intuit their hearts?
Then tell me why an astronomer is
If he cannot see the stars.
So you see a pain and feel it too,
You know the burden of love?
Then tell me what a waiter is
If there's none for him to serve.
ok this kinda sucks, i hate the last 2 lines, but can't be bothered to sit here for another good part of the night thinking of how to improve it :)
I like to think that poems are more for the writer than the reader. Perhaps poets never write for others, but for themselves: to put in writing, for release, for vindication, perhaps to share something with those who are really listening (or bother to, or know how to). Perhaps having a poem achieve fame is just a minor blessing for a poet.
How often do you stop to think why a poet wrote what he did? :)
